Middle School Students are placed into the Peer Counseling Class to implement emotional and lifeskills. The DRS Social Worker and Mental Health Counselor assist in teaching the class.
Strategies, practices, and approaches implemented in the district for the following areas along with grade levels implemented:
Focus Group and Peer Group meetings held by the DRS Mental Health Counselor.
Positive school climate efforts
Trauma informed practices
Mental Healh (including social work) services offered to each student and families.
Character education is infused into the K-5 curriculum and peer counseling infused in Middle School.
Restorative practices Tier 1 approaches
FAMU DRS is gearing up to offer a Restorative Practice Tier 1 program beginning Summer 2019 for students in grades 6-12.
